Varak designs foil-stamped cards — wedding invitations, save-the-dates, greeting cards and business cards — and renders the foil as real metal. Tilt the device and the light travels across it.
FOIL THAT ANSWERS TO THE LIGHT
Design apps paint gold as a flat gradient, which is why it prints grey. Varak shades every foil against four analytic softboxes that rotate with the device: tilt the card by an angle and the reflection swings by twice it. 26 foils — gold, champagne, antique gold, rose gold, silver, gunmetal, onyx, holographic, oil slick — each stamped through one of eight micro-surfaces.
A PICTURE BECOMES FOIL IN FIVE STEPS
Pick a photo or a drawing, choose what turns to foil — the details, the shadows, one colour, the subject, its outline, or paint it in with Apple Pencil — then the foil, then the paper, then the words. The folded card opens at the end.
PAPER YOU CAN SEE THE TOOTH OF
22 stocks, from white and cream through blush and kraft to forest, burgundy and navy, on eight surfaces: cotton, linen, laid, vellum, felt, canvas, handmade and smooth. Raised foil, flat foil, blind emboss, deboss, letterpress and spot gloss all read differently on each one.
A REAL LAYOUT EDITOR
Text, pictures, motifs, shapes and QR codes on layers, each with its own finish. 48 type families, curved text, smart guides, safe, bleed and trim marks, and unlimited undo. 33 templates and 193 motifs to start from, across nine formats from a folded 5×7 to a 3.5×2 business card.
PRINT-TRUE, NOT JUST PRETTY
Preflight checks the rules a foil die actually imposes — minimum feature size, foil running off the trim, foil and paper too close in luminance — before the file leaves your hands. Print export is PDF/X-4 with separate FOIL, EMBOSS and GLOSS spot plates.
SHARE THE SHIMMER
Export MP4 video — tilt loop, sweep, turntable, or the card opening — in 9:16, 4:5, 1:1 or 16:9, up to 4K at 60 fps. Or a still at exactly the angle you want.
Varak is Turkish for gold leaf, the hammered metal leaf of Ottoman illumination.
