Lean: Video Compressor — Terms of Use
Last updated: October 2026
Terms of Use governing your use of the Lean app and its optional Lean Pro subscription or lifetime unlock.
1. Description of the Service
Lean is a video compression app for iOS (iPhone and iPad) offered by Cihat SALIK ("we," "us," or "our"). It scans the videos in your Photos library, estimates how much space each one can give back, re-encodes the ones you choose with HEVC on your device, and writes the smaller version back into your library in the original's place. It also provides a "Compress & Share" extension for fitting any video under a target size. Part of the App is free to use; the rest is unlocked by Lean Pro. By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years of age (or the minimum age required in your country to consent to use of the App) to use the App. If you are under 18, you should use the App only with the involvement of a parent or guardian. By using the App, you represent that you meet these requirements.
3. Free Tier and Lean Pro
3.1 What is free
The library scan, the per-video size and savings estimates, the before/after comparison, the quality presets and the first 3 compressions. There is no account and no time limit on the free tier, so you can judge the output on your own videos before paying.
3.2 Plans
- Weekly: an auto-renewable subscription, with a 3-day free trial shown before purchase.
- Annual: an auto-renewable subscription.
- Lifetime: a non-consumable one-time purchase. Paid once, it is not a subscription — nothing renews and nothing is billed again.
Any of them unlocks unlimited compression, background batches and "Compress & Share" at any size. The exact contents of each plan are described in the App and on its App Store product page and may change as the App develops.
3.3 Billing and Renewal (subscriptions only)
- A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel before the end of the current period.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase and at each renewal.
- Prices are in the currency of your App Store region and may change with notice to the extent allowed by Apple's policies and applicable law.
- Any free trial converts into a paid period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before it ends.
3.4 Cancellation and Refunds
- Cancellation: You may turn off auto-renewal at any time in your device Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions, then select Lean and turn off renewal. Cancellation stops future charges but does not refund the current period.
- Refunds: Refund requests are handled by Apple, not by us. To request a refund, use Apple's "Report a Problem" or the refund flow in the App Store. We do not control Apple's refund decisions.
3.5 Restoring and Access After Pro Ends
The lifetime purchase is non-consumable, so you can restore it on your other devices signed in with the same Apple ID using Restore Purchases. When a subscription expires or is cancelled, access to the unlocked features ends at the end of the paid period and the App returns to its free tier. Videos you already compressed are unaffected: they are ordinary files in your Photos library and do not depend on the App or on any subscription.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree to use the App only for lawful purposes and in a way that does not:
- Violate any applicable law or regulation.
- Infringe or misuse the intellectual property or other rights of us or any third party. You are responsible for holding the rights to any video you compress, and for how you use, publish, share or sell the result.
- Transmit harmful, offensive, or illegal content, or use the App to harass or harm others.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code of the App (except as allowed by mandatory law).
- Circumvent or abuse purchase, subscription, access control, or security features.
- Use the App to build a similar or competing product or service.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the App if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms.
5. Your Content and Data
Your videos: You keep ownership of every video you compress and of the compressed result. We claim no rights in them and need no license to them, because they never reach us.
On-device operation: The App contains no networking code. It has no backend and no account, and it sends nothing — no video, frame, thumbnail, extracted metadata or usage statistic — to us or to any third party. There is no analytics SDK, no crash reporter, no advertising framework and no third-party service embedded in the App. Compression runs on your device's own media hardware. The only network activity around the App is Apple's own: App Store distribution, StoreKit purchase verification, and, where a video you selected lives only in iCloud Photos, iOS downloading that video from your own iCloud account so it can be processed.
Photos access: The App needs access to your photo library to read the videos it compresses and to write the result back. iOS controls this permission and you can change or revoke it at any time in Settings. Album membership can only be preserved under full access; under Limited access the App operates only on the subset you selected.
Deletion of originals: After a compressed video replaces an original, the original is deleted through Apple's own Photos deletion flow, which iOS confirms with you. It moves to Recently Deleted and remains restorable there for 30 days under Apple's control, not ours. "Keep original too" skips the deletion.
Privacy: Collection and use of your data are described in our Privacy Policy at https://apps.cihat.dev/lean/privacy-policy/. By using the App, you also agree to that policy.
6. Our Intellectual Property
The App (including its design, code, compression pipeline, bitrate model, text, graphics, and the "Lean" name and branding) is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by copyright and other laws. These Terms do not grant you any right to our trademarks or other IP except the limited right to use the App as permitted here.
The App is built on Apple's own frameworks — AVFoundation, VideoToolbox, Photos, StoreKit, BackgroundTasks, ActivityKit, WidgetKit, App Intents and SwiftUI — which belong to Apple Inc. and are used under Apple's developer terms. HEVC/H.265 is a standard published by ITU-T and ISO/IEC; encoding is performed by the operating system on your device.
7. Disclaimers
The App is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not promise that the App will be error-free, uninterrupted, or fit for any particular purpose.
Compression is lossy. Re-encoding a video discards data by design: at the default preset the result is intended to be visually indistinguishable on a phone or tablet screen, which is why the before/after comparison is shown before anything is written, but it is not the original file and cannot be turned back into it. If you need the original bytes preserved, use "Keep original too", and keep your own backup.
Savings estimates are calculated predictions based on resolution, frame rate and bitrate, not promises. The actual size of a result depends on the content of the video.
Deleting originals: The App asks iOS to delete an original only after a smaller replacement has been written, and iOS confirms that deletion with you and keeps the original in Recently Deleted for 30 days. Recovering a video after that window is a function of Apple's software and your own backups, and is outside our control.
We are not responsible for any loss of content (for example, videos, originals or compressed results) due to device failure, user action, insufficient storage, interrupted processing, or other causes. You are responsible for backing up your videos as you see fit before compressing them.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:
- We (and our affiliates and suppliers) shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the App or inability to use it. This includes the loss of any video or recording.
- Our total liability for any claims arising from or related to the App or these Terms shall not exceed the amount you actually paid us for the App and subscriptions in the twelve (12) months before the claim (or, if no payment, zero).
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers or limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you; in that case our liability is limited to the greatest extent allowed by law.
9. Changes to the App and These Terms
We may update the App (including features and purchase offerings) from time to time. Where the law requires, we will notify you of material changes to the service or subscription terms.
We may change these Terms. We will post the updated Terms at https://apps.cihat.dev/lean/terms-of-use/ and update the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the App after the change constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree, you must stop using the App and may cancel your subscription as described in Section 3.4.
10. Third-Party Terms
Your use of the App is also subject to Apple's applicable terms, including the App Store Terms of Use and the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, where relevant. In case of conflict between those and these Terms regarding the App's purchases or use, these Terms govern the relationship between you and us; Apple's terms govern your relationship with Apple.
11. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Turkey, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from or related to the App or these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Istanbul, Turkey, to the extent permitted by law.
12. General
Entire agreement: These Terms (together with our Privacy Policy and any in-app terms we expressly reference) constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the App.
Severability: If any part of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
No waiver: Our failure to enforce any right or provision does not waive that right or provision.
