Lean has no backend, no account and no sign-in. It contains no networking code at all: no analytics SDK, no crash reporter, no ads, no third-party service of any kind. Your videos are never uploaded, never copied to a server and never seen by anyone but you — the encoder runs on your device's own media hardware, and the file it writes goes straight back into your library.
BUILT ON APPLE'S OWN FRAMEWORKS
The compression pipeline is AVFoundation — AVAssetReader into AVAssetWriter — encoding HEVC through VideoToolbox on the Apple silicon media engine, with Main 10 and the source's own color tags preserved for HDR. Photos does the reading and the replacing, StoreKit 2 handles purchases, BackgroundTasks keeps a batch running after you leave the app, ActivityKit draws the Live Activity, and WidgetKit and App Intents provide the widgets, the Control Center control and the Shortcuts action. SwiftUI and Swift Charts draw the interface.

SAFE BY DEFAULT
Lean checks free disk space before each item, downloads iCloud-only videos first, and discards its own output if it is not at least 10% smaller than the original. Cinematic, ProRes and spatial recordings are detected and skipped rather than re-encoded badly.
