What is free, and what does full access open?

All eighteen hands open. Inside each, the first five letters of that hand's own teaching order — plus the first two of every named run — are free to write, on its ruling, with its reed, against its exemplar, and on a practice notebook ruled for it. Full access opens the rest of every alphabet, all 902 compositions, the words, the exam, the fifteen challenges and the pen shelf.

Do I need an Apple Pencil?

No, but Hat is built for one. A finger can write and be scored, and Apple Pencil adds the pressure, tilt and timing the reed reads. Finger writing can be turned off in the pen settings if your palm keeps marking the sheet.

Why is my stroke scored low when it looks right?

A stroke's mark is 70% its shape and 30% its direction; where it sits and how large it is are gates that multiply the mark down. Size is measured on the bounding diagonal, so a letter written at half its height is the right shape at the wrong proportion. Turn on the ruling and the dotted template to see where the letter actually stands.

Why are some letters missing from a hand?

Because a calligrapher has not reviewed them yet. Naskh ships the full Ottoman elifbâ at 51 letters; thuluth, kufic and ruqah carry 26 each and diwani 22 — about fifteen reviewed bodies each, plus the Ottoman letters derived from them. Each pack says what is finished and what still needs correcting in its own review block, visible inside the app. Shipping fifteen right letters is better than a full but false alphabet.

Can I practise a hand with a different pen?

Yes, with full access. The pen shelf puts any reed, nib or brush in your hand, and the pack still cuts it to its own nuqta at its own angle — so naskh written with a razor-cut reed is still naskh. The exam swaps nothing: the instrument is part of what a sitting takes away.

How do I cancel a subscription?

In the App Store, not in Hat. Open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and cancel there. A subscription renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. The lifetime purchase is one payment and never renews.

How do I report a bug in Hat?

Email cihatsalik1@gmail.com with your device model, iOS or macOS version, the app version shown in Settings, and the steps that produce the problem. A screenshot or screen recording makes it far quicker to fix.

How do I restore a purchase?

Purchases are tied to the Apple ID that made them. Sign in with that Apple ID, open the purchase screen in the app and use Restore. If the restore does not complete, email cihatsalik1@gmail.com with the date of purchase.

How do I request a refund?

Refunds are issued by Apple, not by the developer. Use Apple's "Report a Problem" page at reportaproblem.apple.com, or the refund flow in the App Store.

If Hat: Arabic Calligraphy is your kind of thing, these live in the same neighbourhood — all made by the same pair of hands.
