Tessera: QR Code Scanner — Terms of Use

Last updated: October 2026

Terms of Use governing your use of the Tessera app and its optional Tessera Pro subscription or lifetime unlock.

1. Description of the Service

Tessera is a QR and barcode app for iOS (iPhone and iPad) offered by Cihat SALIK ("we," "us," or "our"). It scans codes with the camera or from an image or PDF, previews where a scanned link really goes, designs static QR codes, checks that each design still decodes, and exports them as PNG, SVG and PDF. Part of the App is free to use; the rest is unlocked by Tessera Pro. By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age (or the minimum age required in your country to consent to use of the App) to use the App. If you are under 18, you should use the App only with the involvement of a parent or guardian. By using the App, you represent that you meet these requirements.

3. Free Tier and Tessera Pro

3.1 What is free

The scanner is free forever: every supported symbology, batch mode, scanning from a photo or PDF, the smart actions, and the on-device safe-link preview. Creating codes is free in the classic square style with solid colors and PNG export, with up to three folders and one widget code. There is no account and no time limit.

3.2 Plans

  • Weekly: an auto-renewable subscription, with a 3-day free trial shown before purchase.
  • Annual: an auto-renewable subscription.
  • Lifetime: a non-consumable one-time purchase. Paid once, it is not a subscription — nothing renews and nothing is billed again.

Any of them unlocks the premium styles, textures and gradients, logos and frames, SVG and PDF export, the templates, CSV batch generation, unlimited folders and more than one widget code. The exact contents of each plan are described in the App and on its App Store product page and may change as the App develops.

3.3 Billing and Renewal (subscriptions only)

  • A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel before the end of the current period.
  • Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase and at each renewal.
  • Prices are in the currency of your App Store region and may change with notice to the extent allowed by Apple's policies and applicable law.
  • Any free trial converts into a paid period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before it ends.

3.4 Cancellation and Refunds

  • Cancellation: You may turn off auto-renewal at any time in your device Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions, then select Tessera and turn off renewal. Cancellation stops future charges but does not refund the current period.
  • Refunds: Refund requests are handled by Apple, not by us. To request a refund, use Apple's "Report a Problem" or the refund flow in the App Store. We do not control Apple's refund decisions.

3.5 Restoring and Access After Pro Ends

The lifetime purchase is non-consumable, so you can restore it on your other devices signed in with the same Apple ID using Restore Purchases. When a subscription expires or is cancelled, access to the unlocked features ends at the end of the paid period and the App returns to its free tier. Codes you already made and exported are unaffected, because they are static: the data lives inside the code itself, so a printed or saved code keeps scanning whether or not you still hold Pro. Designs that use Pro features stay in your library and remain openable; new exports follow the free tier's limits.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the App only for lawful purposes and in a way that does not:

  • Violate any applicable law or regulation.
  • Infringe or misuse the intellectual property or other rights of us or any third party. You are responsible for holding the rights to any logo, artwork, typeface or content you place in a code, and for what the codes you create point to.
  • Encode deceptive, fraudulent, phishing or malicious destinations, or place a code where it impersonates another party's code — for example over a payment code belonging to someone else.
  • Transmit harmful, offensive, or illegal content, or use the App to harass or harm others.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code of the App (except as allowed by mandatory law).
  • Circumvent or abuse purchase, subscription, access control, or security features.
  • Use the App to build a similar or competing product or service.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the App if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms.

5. Your Content and Data

Your codes: You keep ownership of the codes and designs you create and of what you do with them. We claim no rights in them and need no license to them, because they stay on your device. Codes you design may be printed, shared and sold, including commercially, subject to your holding the rights to what you placed in them.

On-device operation: Scanning, decoding, the safety checks, rendering, the scannability check and every export run on your device. There is no account, no analytics SDK, no crash reporter and no advertising framework, and nothing you scan, design or search for is sent to us. Your scan history and created codes live in a local store in an App Group container so the widgets and extensions can read the codes you pinned.

The one network request: If a scanned link uses a URL shortener, the result card offers "Reveal destination". Only when you tap it does the App send a single request to that shortener's own server to read where the link points, without following the redirect, using an ephemeral session that accepts no cookies. That request goes to the shortener, not to us. If you never tap it, it is never made.

Safety warnings are informational: The real-domain display, punycode detection, shortener and http warnings and payment-link notices are heuristics computed on-device. They are not a malware or fraud scanner and are not a guarantee that a destination is safe. The decision to open a scanned link is yours.

Privacy: Collection and use of your data are described in our Privacy Policy at https://apps.cihat.dev/tessera/privacy-policy/. By using the App, you also agree to that policy.

6. Our Intellectual Property

The App (including its design, code, QR rendering engine, styles, textures, templates, text, graphics, and the "Tessera" name and branding) is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by copyright and other laws. These Terms do not grant you any right to our trademarks or other IP except the limited right to use the App as permitted here.

The styles, templates and layouts bundled with the App may be used in codes you design, print, share and sell. They may not be extracted, redistributed or resold as design assets in their own right.

The App is built on Apple's own frameworks — VisionKit, Vision, Core Image, Core Graphics, SwiftData, StoreKit, NetworkExtension, WidgetKit, App Intents and SwiftUI — which belong to Apple Inc. and are used under Apple's developer terms. QR Code is a standard specified in ISO/IEC 18004; "QR Code" is a registered trademark of Denso Wave Incorporated, which is not affiliated with us and does not endorse the App. The other symbologies the App reads are likewise open standards belonging to their own bodies.

7. Disclaimers

The App is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not promise that the App will be error-free, uninterrupted, or fit for any particular purpose.

Scanning: Whether a code decodes depends on the code itself, the print or screen it is on, the lighting and the camera. We do not warrant that every code will be read, or read correctly, and you should verify anything consequential — a payment destination above all — before acting on it.

Designing and printing: The scannability check decodes your design on-device at a reference size and measures contrast and logo coverage. It is calculated guidance about one rendering, not a guarantee that a given printer, substrate, size or scanner will read the result. Print a physical test and scan it with more than one device before committing to a run. Decorative styles, heavy textures and large logos reduce the margin a code has, and the App will warn you before they break it.

We are not responsible for any loss of content (for example, your history, folders, designs or exports) due to device failure, user action, or other causes. You are responsible for backing up your work as you see fit, for example by exporting it.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

  • We (and our affiliates and suppliers) shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the App or inability to use it. This includes the cost of any print run and any loss arising from a code that did not scan, or from acting on the content of a code you scanned.
  • Our total liability for any claims arising from or related to the App or these Terms shall not exceed the amount you actually paid us for the App and subscriptions in the twelve (12) months before the claim (or, if no payment, zero).

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers or limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you; in that case our liability is limited to the greatest extent allowed by law.

9. Changes to the App and These Terms

We may update the App (including features and purchase offerings) from time to time. Where the law requires, we will notify you of material changes to the service or subscription terms.

We may change these Terms. We will post the updated Terms at https://apps.cihat.dev/tessera/terms-of-use/ and update the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the App after the change constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree, you must stop using the App and may cancel your subscription as described in Section 3.4.

10. Third-Party Terms

Your use of the App is also subject to Apple's applicable terms, including the App Store Terms of Use and the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, where relevant. In case of conflict between those and these Terms regarding the App's purchases or use, these Terms govern the relationship between you and us; Apple's terms govern your relationship with Apple.

11. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Turkey, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from or related to the App or these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Istanbul, Turkey, to the extent permitted by law.

12. General

Entire agreement: These Terms (together with our Privacy Policy and any in-app terms we expressly reference) constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the App.

Severability: If any part of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.

No waiver: Our failure to enforce any right or provision does not waive that right or provision.
