Earshot: AI Voice Recorder

Privacy Policy

Earshot records, transcribes and summarises on your device. There is no account, no API key and no third-party AI service, and your audio and transcripts never reach the Service Provider.

Overview

This privacy policy applies to the Earshot app (the "Application") for iOS on iPhone and iPad, and its Apple Watch companion, created by Cihat SALIK (the "Service Provider"). The Application is offered as a service and is intended for use "AS IS".

Earshot records audio you choose to capture, turns it into a transcript, and writes a summary, decisions and action items from that transcript. Recording, transcription, summarisation, search and export all happen on your devices.

The Microphone and Your Recordings

The microphone is used only while you are recording, and a recording starts only when you start it. Audio files, transcripts, summaries, marked moments, titles and tags are stored in the Application's own storage on your device.

None of it is uploaded to the Service Provider's servers or to any third-party service. There is no account, so the Service Provider cannot see, retrieve or delete anything you have recorded.

You are responsible for recording lawfully. Laws about recording conversations differ by country and by state; many require everyone present to know, and some require their consent. Tell people when you are recording, and stop when they ask.

Transcription and Summaries

Speech becomes text through the speech recognition framework built into iOS, running on the device. Summaries, the evening recap and Ask are written by Apple Intelligence, Apple's on-device foundation model, on devices that support it.

The Application contains no API key and uses no third-party AI service. Your audio and transcripts are not sent to a cloud model, and the Service Provider never receives them.

Location

Location is used only for auto-pause zones, so the Application can stop listening in a place you have named — your home or the gym, for example. The comparison happens on the device. Coordinates for the zones you create are stored on the device and are not transmitted. Deny the permission and every other part of the Application works as before.

Reminders and Face ID

Reminders access is requested only when you send an action item to the Reminders app, and only the item you chose is written there. Face ID or Touch ID is used only to unlock the Application when you switch that on; the Application never sees your biometric data, which stays in the Secure Enclave and is handled entirely by iOS.

iCloud Backup

iCloud backup is off until you turn it on. When it is on, your recordings and transcripts sync through your own iCloud account, so the data stays between your devices and Apple. The Service Provider has no access to it and operates no server of its own.

Analytics, Advertising, and Accounts

The Application contains no analytics or tracking SDK, no crash reporting service and no advertising, and it requires no account or sign-in. It makes no network requests of its own: the only traffic it causes goes through Apple's StoreKit for purchases and restores, and through iCloud if you turn backup on.

If analytics or similar tools are added in a future version, this policy will be updated to describe them before that version ships.

Purchases

Earshot is free to download, record and transcribe with. Earshot Pro is offered as a yearly subscription with a free trial or as a one-time lifetime purchase. Payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. The Service Provider does not receive or store your payment card details. Apple's handling of purchases, renewals and restores is governed by Apple's own terms and privacy practices.

Your Rights Over Your Data

Because the data is on your devices, you control it directly. Delete a recording and its audio, transcript and summary go with it. Settings can delete the audio automatically after a number of days you choose and keep only the text. Deleting the Application removes its data from the device; if iCloud backup was on, deleting a recording inside the Application also removes it from iCloud.

Children

The Service Provider does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through Earshot. The Application stores everything on the device, requires no account and sends nothing to the Service Provider.

If you believe information was collected from a child inappropriately, contact the Service Provider at cihatsalik1@gmail.com.

Security

The security of your on-device recordings depends on your device passcode and biometric settings, and on the optional Face ID lock inside the Application. The Service Provider recommends keeping iOS up to date and using the device security features offered by Apple.

Changes

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating this page and the "Last updated" information where shown. Continued use of the Application after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
